When students get turned down for internships, they often get a form letter offering little or no reason for their rejection. Thankfully, critique sessions like Saturday's at the SAJA convention can help answer the pesky question of why some of those positions may not have been landed.
Here are five tips from Saturday's session:
1. Limit your resume to one page.
2. If you have relevant journalism experience, note it high on your resume.
3. Grade point averages are important for graduate school applications not job applications. Delete them from your resume if you're a job seeker unless you've got a perfect one.
4. Provide no more than six to eight work samples.
5. No matter how you design your resume, keep it is easy to read.
