[See SAJAforum's full coverage of the Mumbai attacks]

Taj_adOn Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, the ad on the right ran in the New  York Times, Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune and several Indian newspapers.

Taj Hotels PR is being handled in the U.S. by Kathy Ho, kathy [at] sheiladonnelly.com, who tells us the quote is from a 2003 video, "The Taj of Apollo Bunder" marking the 100th anniversary of the hotel (see video below.).

When I was a little girl growing up in Bombay, my father used to ask my sister and me "Do you want to go to Apollo Bunder (Gateway of India) or do you want to go Chowpatty Beach?" Sometimes we opted for one, sometimes another. Occasionally he took us to Shivaji Park beach in the suburbs, like the time when Dilip Kumar and Vyjayantimala were filming for a movie there.

My father is long gone, and gone are those days of Apollo Bunder, Chowpatty Beach and Vir Nariman Point. I sincerely hope Mr. Ratan Tata restores the old Taj Mahal Hotel. It has always been one of the icons of the nostalgic old India.

On another note, I feel so sad to see the people of the world go through so much turmoil. It's a sad state of affairs in the world these days. We can send man to the moon and accomplish so much in technology and science, yet we have failed in human chemistry. And it is all because of the power of dominance. Who will dominate the world in the next decade? People try to win military wars when they cannot seem to capture hearts. Wars tear down structures and relationships that people took so long to build.

It's not easy to be the head of the class, because with it come many responsibilities. It is not easy to be a super power either, as you have to be a grand-daddy to all the other countries who are struggling at your feet. So I hope we move into the new year with much humility. Big or small, in the eyes of the Lord we are all equal.

Peace,
Jaya Kamlani

@ jaya ji,

in your last paragraph, you were alluding to
superpowers, are they really superpowers, they
unfortunately have the biggest numbers of poors,
crooks,criminals and killers.

Rafay Kashmiri,

You come across as the former Pandit Jugal Kishore on this forum. First of all, you have left a comment on just about every recent posting where there has been some communication, like the Pandit used to do. You have inundated the comment column like he used to do. Check out this comment of yours.

You not only state the "moral" at the end of your comment as the so-called Pandit did, but the comment before that on the posting is by "Exsqueeze me", another known avatar of Pandit Jugal Kishore on this forum. Both comments on Arundhati Roy's posting have a 'moral'. The language too sounds like that of the Pandit. It is very possible that the one signed off by 'Hooter' on that posting is also the same person. Now, if you want to carry on a real honest exchange on this forum, please only use one name. Why do you carry on a conversation between so many avatars of yours? It's like talking to yourself.

By the way, I believe in people power, not super power. People power is when you inspire and win the hearts of the people. Super power are countries who strive to be economic or military powers.

Dear SAJA,
The house of TATA is also known by TAJ and other properties owned by it.
TAJ can not be ignored as a mere hotel because of its historic relevance.
One can safely say,NANO can come and go but TATA will be known by its major brand.
Ratan Tata is doing the right thing by portraying the positive image of TAJ.
May his beautiful monument of tourismflourish well!
God bless!
yours,
ashish dimri
