Zach Marion, a producer with Video Arts Studios, is looking for a Hindu Indian couple, anywhere in the US, who are expecting a child in the next few months. The couple would be one of three the producers would follow for a one-hour TV documentary. Video Arts Studios is based in Fargo, North Dakota, and produced the series "House of Babies" for the Discovery Health Network. When I asked him why they want an Indian couple, here's what he said:
"Our interest is in expecting parents that bring culturally rich stories to the table. We thought an Indian couple might make for good candidates as India has a history of supporting their midwife community. Look at the work of Nutan Pandit and her center in New Delhi. Also, the customs and traditions regarding birth in Hindu culture are quite fascinating.
"Each episode focuses on three different families having a baby. The more diverse each story is, the more culturally aware the dialogue created through montage of these stories' tellings will be. Therein lies the aim of the show; to raise awareness about different types of birth plans while promoting diversity."
