SAJA member Kishan Putta, who is helping the John McCain campaign with coalition-building and Asian-American outreach efforts, sent in an alert about the following endorsement ahead of the the New Hampshire primary tomorrow. From Primary Source, a blog by James Pindell (who happens to be a former student of mine) for The Boston Globe:
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- John McCain announced a number of new local endorsements today as his campaign appears to have a lot of momentum.
Among the new endorsements include:
State Senator Sheila Roberge of Bedford
Peter Batula, Merrimack State Representative
Liz Chamberlain, Press Secretary to United States Senator John Sununu
Dick Green, Former Senator from Rochester
Saggy Tahir, State Representative, Manchester
Saghir "Saggy" Tahir is a New Hampshire State Representative (which means he is in the state legislature) and is the only Muslim elected to that level in the Republican Party. He was born in Sahilwal, in what became Pakistan and emigrated from Lahore to the U.S. in 1972. He was first elected to the legislature in 2000. See his official website and Wikipedia entry.
REQUEST: Anyone know if the handful of other South Asian state legislators have announced their endorsement for this year's race? Has Bobby Jindal, the Louisiana governor? If you know, please post in the comments section.
UPDATE: Swati Dandekar, an Iowa legislator, has endorsed Hillary Clinton (several readers wrote in to alert us).
