On Aug. 29, 2006, Jayantha Dhanapala, senior adivser to the president of Sri Lanka and a candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary General, participated in a global SAJA web event. He was interviewed by SAJA Board members Sree Sreenivasan & Vikas Bajaj and took questions from listeners around the world. They discussed the race for Secretary General; Dhanapala's chances and the role of the UN in a changing world. They were joined by Tony Fleming, editor of UNSG.org, a blog tracking the race.
Ambassador Dhanapala called in from Colombo for this on-the-record interview. Journalists are welcome to quote directly from the interview.

lengthy career as a diplomat and international civil servant, he
currently holds the title of Senior Advisor to the President of Sri

don't quite understand how any sri lankan national can hope to head the united nations, whose professed objective is world peace. he is better off trying to keep the peace on his war-ravaged island.
